Food Systems Planning
Interest in local food and urban agriculture is growing However, most communities do not contemplate access to healthy, affordable and culturally appropriate food as part of their master plans and only zone for growing of food or raising of animals in rural areas. In the past two years, ENP & Associates has incorporated food systems planning into its practice. Megan Masson-Minock of ENP has worked with the City of Flint to evaluate and amend the legal frameword to support urban agriculture. She has also given multiple presentations on her work in Flint and about community based food, including at the International Geographer’s Union Food Systems Conference held in Toledo, Ohio in August, 2010. She serves on the committee writing a food systems planning policy for the Michigan Chapter of the American Planning Association.
